Okay, so maybe I've had twitter for a little while, but I've only recently started using it. And I only understood it today. There are three things that always threw me for a loop.
@, #, and RT.
I'll provide a simple explanation, followed by an example
The @ sign, as I understand it, means reply.
Example-
9x19: Maru, you inspire me! Coolest cat ever.
Sousaplex: @9x19 Pfft... Keyboard Cat is way cooler. He started it all!
The # is a hashtag. I had no idea what hashtags were, and thought I'd never know, until it was explained to me earlier today. I feel dumb, cause it makes a lot of sense. It's basically a keyword that is searchable by anyone looking for related posts. Once you hashtag a word it links to search results of that word.
According to my source there are two ways of using hashtags.
1) The Normal Way
Example-
Sousaplex: There's a slam poet fighting with a hipster cop. Come check it out! #occupywallst
2) The I.Q. Below 80 Way
Example-
rtard: #yo #what #is #up!! shout #out# to all# my# #friends ##!!
(this example would also most likely not even be done on twitter, but on facebook)
Finally there is the RT, which is technically not a twitter command but is more of a user created phenomenon. RT means to ReTweet. It's like forwarding an e-mail.
Example-
Sousaplex: RT: @9x19 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0 -- check it out, how one person can make a difference!
Anyways, much thanks to 9x19 for the twitter info. Follow him for a good time. Hope your cool with me putting your name in the examples...
I think I'll link up my twitter account to my blog now.
Next time: A tour through my studio.
And I'm off...
